Too many young people have experienced the terrible effects of knife crime.

The injuries and deaths don’t have to happen but the fact is, if you carry a knife, you are more likely to get stabbed yourself.

This site is for people who want to take positive action against knives.

 

The number of people coming forward to make a stand against knives for our outdoor posters is growing, we’ve now had over 100 photo pledges and we’re pleased that Hannah Cooper, our logo winner, has made her pledge against knives along with some of her friends. If you haven’t already sent us your poster pledge there is still time to take part. Find out below how easy it is to get involved.

On 17 November It Doesn’t Have To Happen launches an exciting new competition with MTV called ‘Show us what you’re made of’. Send in your skills in film, music, art, photography, dance or anything that shows off your creativeness for the chance to win up to £1000 and the opportunity to get your work on to MTV. Look out for the adverts on all MTV channels or check out http://showus.mtv.co.uk to find out how you can take part.

The more people you tell, the stronger we become. Together we can beat knife crime.

  • Share your tunes, join the skate park event

    A number of artists have sent us their anti-knife songs, from bedroom MCs to MOBO winners. If you’ve been writing tunes why don’t you share them here? It Doesn’t Have To Happen has teamed up with the London South Bank Skate Park and we’ll be holding a special event on Saturday 6th December to help spread the anti-knife crime message. We’d love to see you there.

  • Spurs Players Against Knife Crime

    Spurs players David Bentley, Alan Hutton, Darren Bent, Jermaine Jenas, and Ledley King got in touch with us to make their pledge against knife crime.   • Hannah’s Blog: Friday 3rd October 2008

    Gosh, my big day in London … I got shown a presentation of how the agency works, which excited me as I want to go into that profession when I’m older. When the presentation was over I got a tour of the building and got to meet some of the people who work there. We then went to the editing section of the agency and I got shown how my logo would be changed so it was perfect for the campaign. By the way, it looks good, I was so happy I could be a part of it all. It was about 4:30/4:45 when my mom, Laurie and I got in a taxi to Lancaster House. Then it hit me that I was going to be meeting Gordon Brown and I started getting really nervous. We got to Lancaster House at about 5:00 everything was so beautiful and gold! It was a huge building. I walked into the room and saw Team GB there. I was so scared but happy at the same time, I really wish I had the confidence to talk to them but I was too anxious. We waited about an hour before Gordon Brown arrived, which gave me time to calm down. While I was waiting I met James DeGale, the boxing gold medallist at the 2008 Olympics. It was really nice meeting him as he also feels very strongly about knife crime. We both stood there waiting for Gordon Brown to turn up, it was obvious when he had arrived, as all that could be seen were camera flahes. He walked in and shook my hand. We talked for a while about knife crime and then had our photo taken for the newspaper. He was lovely and I was so shocked he knew my name. After meeting him I calmed down and realised there was no point of me getting so worked up. It was an amazing experience and an amazing day.

    I totally agree with wot ur doin, and wot ppl r saying about carrying knifes, i'm a mother of 3 sons, and when my oldest son is out with his mates i fear for him, he only 14, there r too many dickheads out there that think that they r hard especially when they have had a drink in them. if u can do the crime then u can do the time.

    I'm from ireland and my friends dad got stabbed outside a police station by a youth tryin to rob his car 14 years ago since then knife crime is on the rise and we really need to stop this it doesn't just affect the person it affects the family and friends 2!

    stabbing people has been going on for ages. i wish it wud stop. but it will keep going on and on. when my dad was 19 he got stabbed he's 50 now. and lost 8 pints of blood. but somehow he is still here. and thank god he didnt die. or i wudnt be here lol.
